Abu Dhabi and New Delhi have officially cemented terms for the deployment of a powerful AI supercomputing cluster, named Condor Galaxy India. The agreement, formalized on May 15, 2026, establishes a significant collaboration between G42, an Abu Dhabi-based global technology group, and the Government of India. The deployment will feature an 8-exaflop AI supercomputing cluster comprised of 64 Cerebras CS-3 systems, positioning it as one of the largest AI compute clusters within India. This initiative is set to be a foundational asset for the country's sovereign AI aspirations.
Strategic Partnership and Sovereign AI Ambitions
The framework's formalization was witnessed by high-profile leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, during the Prime Minister's official state visit to Abu Dhabi. This event underscores the strengthening strategic and technological ties between the UAE and India. According to H.E. Mansoor Al Mansoori, CEO of G42 International, the deployment represents "AI-native transformation in practice," delivering infrastructure that converts energy and compute into "sovereign governed nation-scale intelligence." Under the agreement, G42 will collaborate with India's Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to manage the installation, deployment, operations, and maintenance of the supercomputing system.
Enabling Frontier Research and Innovation
The Condor Galaxy India AI supercomputer is poised to underpin a new era of joint research and development across vital sectors. These include advancements in health and genomics, energy, and geospatial analytics. The infrastructure will empower researchers, institutions from both nations, and India's emerging innovators to push the boundaries of frontier science and address some of the most pressing global challenges. The supercomputer's architecture will be powered by Cerebras CS-3 systems, leveraging the company's wafer-scale engine technology. Cerebras itself recently saw significant market confidence with one of the most notable IPOs in the AI sector, listing on the Nasdaq under the ticker CBRS. This deployment also extends the strategic partnership between G42 and Cerebras, who already operate several supercomputing clusters across the United States through the Condor Galaxy network.
The Growing AI Ecosystem in India
This development occurs amidst a broader surge in AI investment and infrastructure development in India. Recent reports indicate significant interest and capital inflow into the Indian AI sector, with companies like Sarvam AI attracting substantial funding rounds, signaling a shift in priorities for established IT firms. Furthermore, initiatives like the India-Korea Digital Bridge aim to deepen collaboration in AI and semiconductors, while venture firms are launching India-focused funds for AI startups. The government's commitment is further evidenced by schemes like the Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme, which is backing deep tech startups. The establishment of the Condor Galaxy India supercomputing cluster is a pivotal step in building India's capacity for advanced AI research and development, aiming to foster indigenous innovation and address national priorities.
