Apple India's Revenue Soars Amidst Premiumization
Apple India is on track to achieve a remarkable financial milestone in the fiscal year 2026, with revenue expected to hit approximately ₹1.42 lakh crore. This projection, detailed in a Kotak Mutual Fund report, signifies a more than doubling of the revenue compared to Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), which is forecasted to earn ₹64,468 crore in the same period. The impressive growth trajectory for Apple India is underpinned by company filings and estimates from Avendus Spark, highlighting a substantial increase from FY21 when Apple's revenue stood at ₹22,845 crore, less than half of HUL's earnings at that time. This dramatic shift underscores a significant evolution in India's consumption patterns, with a pronounced move towards premium technology and discretionary products over traditional consumer staples.
Premiumization Drives Smartphone Market Dynamics
The Indian smartphone market is increasingly defined by a trend of premiumization, with consumers demonstrating a greater willingness to spend on higher-priced devices. Despite overall smartphone volumes remaining relatively flat over the past five years, the share of premium smartphones, priced above ₹30,000, has seen a notable increase. This segment has grown from 20% to 26% of total phones sold, indicating a widening spending divide between affluent and mass-market consumers. This trend directly benefits Apple, which has consistently held a strong position in the premium segment. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple concluded 2025 with its highest-ever smartphone market share in India, capturing 9% of shipments and a significant 28% by value. The company has maintained this shipment share in the first quarter of 2026 as well. Analysts suggest that Apple's expanding installed base is creating a powerful halo effect across its entire ecosystem, with robust growth also observed in its Services, Mac, and iPad businesses.
